Default Magic Idle fix on ebay

Found this on ebay - any ideas as to what it is ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...558307615&rd=1

I notice that it is for Imports - Mine is a 93 WRX which has a slight miss at tickover now and again. But do have a symptom of holding back when cold only. I don't have any of the other symptons

I have a MY00 and it holds back when cold. IIRC this is the Lambda before it has warmed up properly.

The ebayer has a good feedback score though.

It must be a cheap component as I expect at £30 he will be taking a significant profit margin... Sounds like the car stops everything except global warming...

I have all the symptons of that and not just when cold! So far I've changed the MAF, O2 sensor, coil packs, engine collant temp sensor, dump valve, ecu, and the car is still running crap. Maybe £34 might be worth a go?!

Well if you think it will help then go for it, not alot of money to spend if it "might" fix your problem.

If you do go for it, be sure to let us all know what the part is and the part number (as it says it's a genuine subaru part), so in the future we can all do this cheap fix.

I don't think this is an oil additive - It says it is a Subaru part with fitting instructions. Also I notice that the word Import is underlined.

Good point, but maybe subaru do make a similar part that he has decided should fit in the same place as that ??

Infact thinking about it

Isn't it a common problem for the Top mount intercooler gasket to split ???

Think it could be this

Its probably a very expensive 2p resistor network between the ECU and knock sensor:

http://www.ravensblade-impreza.com/m...paperclip.html

But still intersting all the same. I have a very minor pulsing hesitation on light throttle between 2-3k RPM. I was thinking giving the above a go.

Cheers,

Wayne.

I emailed a guy who bought the part this was what he emailed back
"Easy to fit but a bit tricky (mustn't drop any thing down to pipe) Has made minor difference to my car but I don't think mine was leaking that much, but I did whip a RS focus today!! (220hp) The magic part I don't think is worth the money I think the seller is trying to recoup his own loses The part is the gasket between the inter cooler and the pipe that feeds it PART no 21896 If you buy this part take lots of care doing it..ck
Hope this helps you all.

Good bit of research all round there! But find it hard to believe that causes all those problems that it is alleged to cure!

Un metered air getting in after the maf sensor will cause all manner of running problems including eratic idle so it could help for people with that problem but check all other pipework first!!!

Do you know if this is particular to the wrx intercooler or the wrx sti intercooler as well?
