Aircon compressor's dead: sounds expensive
Hi all
Had some nasty ticking noises coming from my compressor, and a test showed that it wasn't pumping at all, despite having the correct level of refrigerant.
The aircon place I went to did a series of diagnostics and came to the conclusion that the compressor is broken, and in all likelyhood will have spread metallic debris round the system. They estimate that I'll need a new/repaired compressor, new recevier/drier and a full system flush, and this sounds like it's adding up to the thick end of £600. Not good.
Apparently this isn't that uncommon, and I wanted to know what people thought. Anyone got other ideas?
A new compressor is 460 quid inc VAT from Subaru. The RD is 100 quid. I might end up going to a breaker at those kind of prices.
It always goes on the blink in summer as well. Typical.
