Default Black smoke..

On my way to NBO this morning, noticed considerable black smoke from the exhaust when on boost. I'm assuming this means the turbo's on it's way out - could it be anything else?

Anyone got a decent TD05 to get rid of?

trouble is its a scooby so its even more things that could be wrong.

dumpvalve if fitted
maf sensor faulty
spark plugs faulty
o2 sensor faulty
ecu faulty.

does it do it everytime ur on full throttle?
see smoke during day or just at night as its easier to spot in rear view mirror?

Only seen it when loaded - ie booting it on the road in higher gears. Revving when stationary is ok.
Plugs being changed on friday
Difficult to check really - I could have my wife drive it and follow, but I wouldn't keep up for long in an auto V70!
Is there a way of testing if the turbo is on it's way out? Boost never gets about 0.65 anyway (seperate post), and I haven't got to the bottom of that yet.

PS v. v. tight budget!

i dont think theres anyway of checking the turbo except paying some1 to look over it.black smoke doesnt really indicate turbo. that would be the last thing to go. a maping session would be better for you.about 120 + vat. would also set up ur boost properly. probably one thing is that ur boost is low and the ecu is chucking in fuel that it isnt using because its not boosting properly.i.e black smoke

Thanks for that
I was under the impression from posts I've read that mapping cost ~£5-700, which is way too much for me. If I can get it done for £120 ish I'll book it in (Probably Well Lane), and they can get it on the RR

Found my low boost problem - some n*b had missed a bolt from the junction on the intake pipe and the I/C, so it was loosing air, but getting full fuel.
Getting 0.75-8 bar now, soooooooooo much quicker!
