Cool Just got back from remap....

of mate's...and OMG what a difference.

He wasn't being over otimistic (sp?) before hand as he didn't want to be dissapointed in the results, but he needen't have worried the difference is staggering...!

He's grinned so much all the way home that he's got face ache..!

Until now I've felt that, although quick, the 05 WRX hadn't quite lived up to his expectations and although on several occasions he's had the better (just) of CTR's 182 etc it has been very close.... until now...!

Based on our (crude) bench marks (ie stopwatch and speedo) 30-70 was ~5.9, now 4.5sec & 60-100 was ~8.5 now 6.5sec..!

Not that you need a stopwatch to know it's a totally different car.

Made me very jealous indeed.

Just to add to this, his wife drove the car today and you know what women are like (wouldn't notice if the exhaust or a wheelhad fallen off) so when she gets back he asked, jokingly, if she noticed any difference (bear in mind she never drives fast is not into cars and hasn't a clue about what's been done)..? he couldn't beliveve her reply saying she thought it felt smoother..!

So for me this just goes to show how much different the car now feels..!

What remap did you have done and did you have to tell your insurance company (and if so what extra premium did they charge?)?

p.s. I'm not an insurance investigator :-)

Trap2Terrorist: you sure you're not an insurance investigator..?
Absolutely not! I paid £1500 to insure mine and can't really afford any extra premium but want more power (don't we all??? )
  • Is it worth having a remap without having any other mods done (exhaust, air filter, etc)?
  • How much was your remap?
  • What's involved in having it done?
(I'm new to all this so don't much about it yet).

A remap without other mods is going to release a bit more power depending how good or bad your car is as standard. The poorer the base map is inconjunction with your build, the greater the potential improvement IYSWIM. The greatest gain will be with mods but that will be obvious to an insurance man, where as the ECU re calibration will not be.

Bob R. has performed my mapping to great affect - recommened

How do I go about getting the obviously legendary 'Bob' to remap my car? Do you all live near his work (Surrey?)?

No, we don't all live near him but we travel because we think its worth the trip. His web site is brdevelopments IIRC. Contact him via web/email and go from there.

There are others that will Map for you. If you are 'Uptnorth', try Andy Forrest performance.

Full decat (only 2 1/2" but better for spool-up) & lagged
Green panel filter
STI TMIC and matching splitter

KL & boost gauge

Bob said fuel pump operating well within it's capacity so no uprated fuel pump or reg needed.

he was considering a hybrid TD04 (andy f) and porting OEM headers as next stage but TBH he's more than happy with what he's got, as you can probably tell..!

I suppose this is similar to Andy F's project WRX which he based his mods on, and lets face it he found some impressive results.

I have a 500 mile round trip to visit Bob for my remap's, and I have done that 4 times.

Never regretted a single mile.

I didn't get any actual figure's as I'm not a great believer in there accuracy..!

Estimated ~280 maybe a little more maybe a little less, it certainly feels more..!
