Unhappy Dump Valve Problem? Please, please, please help!!

I have recently had to replace the dump valve because the little pipe sticking out had snapped off inside the hose.

Had to drive about 60 miles before it was fixed, so am worried it may have caused damage to it.

Is this possible?

Ever since I've replaced it, it's been making a sort of higher pitched/hollow/rattle noise when approaching 2.5k revs. Just doesn't sound normal at all. Has anybody experienced that sort of noise from the dump valve? It only happens when I'm slowly approaching 2.5k revs.

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi Mikey, it's a UK 98 with just the standard subaru dump valve (old one and the replacement).

Without the small tube connected to the dump valve, it will not work and so pressure from the tubro will not be vented. Not good for the turbo but for a short distance, not a big problem, especially if you took it slow. If you did not block the small hose then it would have been sucking in a bit of unfiltered air, which is not a good thing, but not usually a big problem if just for a very short while.

The new dump valve should not make strange noises. Are you sure this is where the noise is coming from. Perhaps it wasn't put on properly if it is this.

Becasue it had only started when I replaced the dump valve I put it down to either the new dump valve or something that I had damged while driving with the broken one.

It's not a 'dump valve noise' if you know what I mean. It's a slightly different sound and has a bit of a rattle to it.

And it only happens when I'm approaching 2.5k revs (about 2.3/2.4k)
