Default CEL on... I hate cars!!!

Light came on last night after booting it round for a bit and then normal driving down a country road.

Do i have to take it to subaru to get the fault read or can other garages etc do this?

Ive read thru many of the post about this on here, and i cant do the thing with the wires i dont think cause i have a 01 bugeye wrx

Only mod is a 3" decat which has been on for about 2 weeks without any problems and car is still running totally fine with the light on. Ive tried disconnecting the battery to see if this would clear the light but it hasnt.

Im suspecting it will be a dodgy sensor somewhere and nothing too bad, cause the car is running completely faultless..

How much is that software stuff to buy for your laptop to read the codes, and where can you buy it from?

Cheers,

Bri

It's likely the CEL is error P0420, Catalyst below efficiency. Not surprising as it's no longer there

My local dealer will check codes FOC if not too busy but I expect you will need a CEL fix (available from quite a few suppliers) or start thinking about re-mapping where this particular CEL can be "mapped out".

The MY01 bugeye ECU still stores Error codes if the battery is disconnected.

Hope this helps

cheers midlife,

I just rang up the dealer in widnes and they wanted £62 plus vat for an hours labour to read the code... i told them where to stick it! as i know it only takes a few minutes!

I think im going to buy the software to read this incase it hapens another time, also glad to know about the "storing of the fault" after disconnecting the bettery, as i thought it was something worse when that happend.

cars running fine tho, had a 4x4 siera cossie of last nite at some street racin

Ta,

Bri
