Optimax Information
sent a few emails to Shell asking about optimax ,here are the responses:
The Octane rating for Optimax is 98 and it is covered by british standards
The British Standard number for Optimax is BSEN228 & BSEN7800
We have no plans at the moment to release 99 octane and also no plans to faze out Optimax
<< What additives (and there affects on performance /economy etc) are used in Optimax? Are these just cleaning agents? >>
Shell Optimax contains a top tier performance additive which has the ability to clean the engine and remove the deposits left behind by other fuels from the airways. This helps to restore performance to an as new condition, optimising the air flow within the engine leading to improved responsiveness. The removal of deposits may also result in improved FE since this allows all the fuel to the right place for optimum combustion.
<< Supermarkets obviously don’t have there own refineries, do you supply supermarkets with your fuel? Is it the same end product, or just addition of additives/different additives? >>
Supermarkets may purchase base fuel products from refiners, or import into hired storage. They will then add their own additives or not. The additives used in Optimax are unique to the Optimax product
<< Does Optimax leave the refinery with a high octane rating than what comes out the pumps. >>
Shell Optimax is 98 RON minimum. This applies to both the refinery gat and the retail site.
<< If I fill a jerry can with Optimax an leave it for say 3 month with the rating drop? >>
This will depend upon the conditions under which it is stored. Inadequate storage can lead to loss of light ends and a potential subsequent small loss of octane quality (0.1 - 0.2 ON). The fuel should be stored in a tightly sealed container, in a cool place.
