Question Hunting at idle and spluttering above 4000rpm

Hi,

Any ideas, friends car was fine this morning, warmed up after 2miles then this.
Idles roughly going right down then up and down, just won't pull cleanly above 400rpm!

Help!

Maf sensor

Just incase anyone gets ripped off like I nearly did by my local dealer trying to get a MAF sensor only (£76 inc) instead for being charged £280 for the complete thing.

The part number is 22794AA010 - Meter CP-AIR Flow

Made me mad, just want others to be aware that this part IS available as the sensor only.
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=154601 for my rant at the dealer in question.

Thanks to Cheam Motors for supplying the part so quickly.
Thanks also to the late great Moles Dad who I know found this out

sounds like it could also be an air leak on the inlet manifold, check all pipes for leaks

One way I knew my maf had gone: If the car was revved to around 3/4k rpm and then removed foot from throttle, the revs dived to almost stall point. It does this a few times until settling back down.

If it does the above then it is the maf.

Cheers all.
I did check the forum first but the combination of idle and 4K rev problem had me wondering a little.

Thanks for all your advice and information.

MAF seems the no1 suspect so I'll start there.

Is there any way of getting round this? what about bypassing the MAF altogether, is there another solution, my friend wishes he had never fitted the induction kit even though it is a quality HKS one...
Can you clean them?

I'll let you all know ASAP.

Induction kits kill MAF sensors quickly apparently. I would take it off.

Yep,

I certainly will, do you know anyone that wants an induction kit in exchange for a standard box?

Get others opinions though first as I am no expert and relatively new to scooby ownership but I have read it a few times.

I know it does this on the MY99 - 00 classics.

Not for every model though. Some you have to have the buy the complete unit. I can't remember off the top of my head which ones though.
