Question Induction & FMIC

Hi guys,

I am thinking of Installing a FMIC which means the standard air filter assembly has to go.

I am aware that induction kits + MAF is not a good combination but I was wondering which induction kit is the most reliable to run.

On the other hand If I map the map using Apexi PowerFC can I remove the MAF completely?

Any alternative ideas are welcomed.

The car is a '96 STi

Thank you.

Being a 96 model it will have the stronger MAF anyway so induction shouldnt be as big a worry as it is to newer cars.I personally run the K&N 57i kit on my MY98 type r with hybrid FMIC and its never failed me yet.The K&N is probably one of the safest induction kits on the market and quite popular with scoob owners

Thank you "scooby-tc". I was wondering if you could help me with this:
My frond bumper between the fog lights / in front of the radiator has got the parallel plastic bars. Do they have to be cut to install the Hybrid intercooler?

Sorry for the trouble but I am new to scooby modifying scene

I have look to other threads related to Hybrid intercooler but I cannot find the answer.

Thanks.

The parallel uprights will be cut back but they do remain.

If you are talking the horizontal ones behind the number plate, then I cut all mine out. Took off the number plate bracket too. (on a MY95)

There is an excellent thread in Projects started by Delboy2 which covers the pre97 cars very well.

I used a K+N induction kit too, very simple to fit, gets rid of everthing needed to fit FMIC

Also with a piece of Samco 35mm to 25mm reducing elbow and 25mm pipe, you can either reuse the BOV in its original position or fit a Forge recirc. Its easier to fit a VTA it thats your thing

P.s. hi Harvey, kit fitted well

Cheers Jay. Nice bit of individualism there with the "hot" pipe.
There are differences from M/Y to M/Y. Retaining the verticals on the 99/00 is an easy option if you want to retain the number plate location but I fully removed it on my 95 WRX Wagon.
Delboy's thread is really good.

Harvey, the individualism was merely a copy of Delboy's

However I had to trim 30mm from the 'cold' pipe where it attaches to the inlet manifold, which I don't think has been mentioned, I assume due to the TB being closer to the bulkhead on the pre97's
