what MY is it I had the same problem on my MY93 WRX import you will need to get a delimiter the one I got sits between the gearbox and the speedo ( sits inline of the cable ) this then slows the cable speed down by way of a little box of cogs thus letting you go over the JPN limit of 112kmh

Jap cars are limited to 180kph (112 mph).
Either have the limiter removed and just read the MPH figures on the standard kph clock or fit a converter so the clock reads mph on the kph scale. In the latter case the limiter is still there but at 180mph.

Mandatory **** Advice Post:
You do know your intercooler doesn't work above 110mph, so you'll melt your pistons and hammer your big ends due to high charge temps, detonation etc etc yadda yadda

The limiter cant be removed. Your car has had a 112mph facia fitted in place of the 180kph original (180kpm is 112mph...) The only way to go faster is to fit a reduction gearbox onto the speedometer cable, between the gearbox and the speedometer head. You will have to change the speedometer facia to one which reads 180mph (bear in mind that it will be quite a lot harder to read at legal speeds...). This doesnt remove the limiter, it simply icreases the road speed at which it comes into play, now 180mph as opposed to 180kph.
Dont buy a cheap 'eBay' type converter, Id expect to pay about £80 for an absolutely top quality one; fit it yourself, its totally straightforward.

What is true is that if you don't put top-quality fuel in it plus octane booster, and then go blasting off trying to get 150-odd mph out of it, then you risk blowing your engine, as many, many people have. HTH.
