Perhaps what you really need is a good mapper in Scotland . . . hmmm, can we think of anyone on this board who's a highly rated mapper in Northern climes?
To be less cryptic - in your location, I'd give Andy F a ring.

Guys, a few questions in response to your responses - cheers!! Anyone got contact numbers for Dastek (I have geard thes erecommended by others) or Star Performance? What I want is for the car to run spot on - does this involve a re-map? Forgive my ignorance but using my RS turbo and AVA as an example, you would book your car in for the session, they would check the timing etc, tweak where possible and give you a power output at the wheels. When you drove away, there were no flat spots and the car ran sweet as a nut - all for about £50. My scooby has a wierd flat spot when you floor it in second with a slight puff of sooty/ black smoke out the back (new engine so cannot be f*cked) I therefore assume it needs a tune up as this problem has only come to fruition since I changed the exhaust (and it was a problem with the old engine as well)

Those days are gone I'm afraid, you can't tweak anything without a remap, and AVA cost a bit more than £50 now
The re-map options depend on the model year of your car. The legendary Andy Forrest (Andy.F on here) at http://andyforrestperformance.co.uk/ is a good place to start. I don't have Star or Dastek contacts to hand but google or yell.com will find them. Dastek can provide one of the cheapest option which is an add-on piggy-back controller called the Unichip. There are mixed opinions of it - do a search on here.
