If you wanna do heat protection proper.... This is how to do it!
Turbo wraps to keep heat down, exhaust wraps, engine wraps, spray protection!

I was looking for an opinion G_Sleigh_STi. Not another product or how to wrap them.
They are trying to say that keeping the heat in causes problems. What does anybody else think?

I have thought that wrapping a turbo would not be good for it. Less cooling on the turbo, dont know if you would get oil degradation due to much higher temps sustained or accelerated wear on components.
Its pure conjecture on my part... although lessened under-bonnet temps, I wouldn't do that to my turbo. IMO turbo life would be reduced, but i dont have proof just an opinion.

News to me. All the opinions I gathered, mainly professional, were adamant that headers need to be wrapped or coated, not only to protect the wiring fuel lines etc but to keep the heat in and improve the performance of them. I've had the GT SPec II headers on now for 3 months, 5k miles and all is well.

I would have thought there is enough people running wrapped headers on here (and for long enough) to prove that failure does not seem to be an issue. May give a reason why gruppe s gaskets fail though?
I have my OBX headers wrapped, but if money was not an issue, I would have them jet coated!

I do apologise (highlander) i miss-read your post.
I am interested if all the heat protection is worth it or not. I mean if you manage to wrap everything generating heat then realistically you would think keeping it away from the intake and intercooler cant be a bad thing.
But then surely what you are doing is making those items which generate heat.... to get even hotter because they cant vent it as easily.
The Turbo wrap i have been told is a great idea AS LONG AS you have a turbo timer or are willing to sit in the car awhile after driving.
You are going to keep a huge amount of heat away from the engine bay, BUT then when you turn the car off the turbo cant cool down as quick which is never good unless you have a timer so you can allow it to cool down naturally with the oil.
Obviously i am just going on what i have been told, and i am no mechanic, correct me if i am wrong people THanks
