purely for track use and a little bit of b-road stuff - my car is being converted away from road use to more of a track toy

while the profile is a percentage of the width, not all manufacturers widths are the same. ie semperits 225 from memory is roughly 15mm wider than as far as i can remember Falken but dont quote me. then if you apply the profile % to the actual dimension of each manufacturers width you will get an overlap iykwim.
insurance problems really only become an issue when you go outside the dimensions for which the wheel is designed for. usually its acceptable to go max 2 width sizes in either direction. in other words 205 55 16 is not necessarily out of range. also remember that with a higher profile tyre generally it will be inflated to a slightly less pressure so the radius of the slightly "oversized" tyre will be reduced and be much closer to the radius of the "recommended" tyres radius. buy em an enjoy em.
time for a nice cup of tea me thinks!!
heh heh
