Default Running water noises

Afternoon,

Sometimes after starting up there is the sound of running water - quite a lot of it.

Nothing leaks it does not lose any water, no oil in the coolent etc etc. The car is not parked on a hill.

What could it be - Air con ?

2001 - Legacy B4.

Any suggestions ?

Cheers

Del

Mine make the same noise since i removed the inlet last time, i belive there is a air lock in the heater matrix.

Is the noise coming from under the dashboard on the passenger side?

Does it go when the car is upto temp?

I get the same sort of noise intermittently on my 97 Impreza turbo (no air con), would love to know what it is but never been able to find out!

Have you got a sun roof ?

If so... the water wells in the guttering around the inner panels of the roof, as it should do.

Then as you move off the water runs down a hole and then a tube in your 'A' pillar, and out through a hole in the sill.

Thats what it does on an 'X' Type anyway.

Hi

My legacy does this all the time, doesn't affect the heater or cooling in anyway though.

You could try www.uklegacy.com for more opinions.

Mine does this also.

I always though it was the car pi**ing itself with fright as it's seen me getting
in the drivers seat about to give it a good ragging !!!!

Quite a few people have reported this - seems to be one of the "features" of Subaru coolant systems.

Have a quick check to see if your coolant level is a bit low. Topping the coolant up can help to minimise or remove the running water sound.

Yeah.

I will check coolant levels tonight, it does not seem to effect performance, just odd.

I have owned several Fiats, and the amount of quirks they all had was astounding, the garage kept saying "it is a common fault/feature on these cars"

On a different issue, I have just bought a bath that does not come with an overflow hole - They called it a design feature, I said manufacturing fault !!

Thanks

Del - On the bath matter...does it have one of those fangled plugs that is pressure weighted?

Not that it's relevant...but odd all the same!

Bath in your sink perhaps? Would use lots less water.....
