Default engine clean.?

HI,
I'd like to give the engine a clean....now do I take it to a steam cleaning place or is it best done with degreaser and water..???
Their seems to be a lot of wires around....WILL THEY BE OK..????

i was interested in cleaning my engine and bay with a jet washer and degreaser but was advised not to as you could get water into components you dont want to, so the best advice is to clean each individual part when you can a few sunday mornings under the bonnet does the trick regards lee

brake cleaner, gets it spotless, + a copper brush and wire wool.

i use soap and water on all plastics then spray over with wd40 to protect and shine, brake fluid works wonders carefull cause lethal on paintwork.

I used Autoglym engine cleaner and it brought the engine bay up a treat. Got the engine warm, sprayed it on, worked in with a paintbrush and left it for 5 mins. Just used a pressure washer on a low pressure setting to gently rinse it all away.

Car started fine and no running problems afterwards.
