you s.......LAG
Morning all!
Only had the car a week, its an import MY95 WRX. This is my first turbo car, so im used to pure n/a power, so im guessing part of it is getting used the car, but it seems that there is a lot of turbo lag. for example, take a teft turn, not too slow, but in 2nd gear, get the toe down as soon as im out of the corner, and it takes about 2 seconds and 3.5k before the car actually **** off. once its spooled it flies.
is this about normal and I need to learn how to drive a turbo'd motor? or is something not right?
cheers

Sounds about normal.
My 93 WRX used to take until around 4k to really wake up. I've now got a full stainless de-cat'ed exhaust, and it spools up a good 500rpm sooner.
It's just a factor of having a larger turbo. The advantage is, that while smaller turbos will be wheezing shortly after 6k, the early WRXs pull right up to the red line

yeah it has an exhaust and decat too.
also if flat out in 1st and 2nd gear i can feel some vibration through the sterring wheel, only for a short period but its quite distinct. is this normal too considering its at full chat?

to be completely honest with ya! my previous car which was a tuned 2.0 16v williams engined stripped out clio was a much more fun car to drive than the scooby. handled on rails, and 205/ton FWD was great fun, instant power! just a bright yellow, stripped out, lightweight, bucket'd, caged car aint the most convenient of cars to run daily, doh!
The scooby is much nicer to drive, much more comfy, has lots more toys, feels great on boost, looks LOADS nicer, everyone loves it, it sounds the dogs nads, and the ladies love it
Wish i could afford to run 2 cars, but a few mods to this should keep me happy for now ill keep buying those lottery tickets!

Like any car, it has characteristics that you have to learn to drive with, so for instance, 2nd gear, 30mph, corner, keep the power on, exit the corner, add power, no lag because you kept your turbo up there in the power band
Give it time, you will get use to turbo charged cars and how to get the best from them

yeh i think thats all it is mate. first turbo'd car and that!
i had a good blast down some country lanes on the way back from my mates, was taking the corners easish (for now) but kept the revs up in 2nd and 3rd so it was ready for boost as soon as my foot went down and it was like driving a different car. Really enjoyed it, and it felt super quick!
Im dying to try a mad super quick launch as well, but im **** scared im gonna break it hehe

Yeah I was scared to tr a quick launch at first.
Finally plucked up the courage and it took off like a scalded cat
Don't the clutches smell odd on these though!!!
