Default Low boost pressure

I know there was a similar thread over the w/e, so apologies for this, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Failing that, and specialists near York?!

I've recently got a '93 WRX. It alread had a boost guage, and a rediculously big BB, but I don't think there's anything else non-standard.
At first, the boost wouldn't get past 0.5, which I believe suggests safe mode.
I've put a foam air filter in to replace the cacked-up paper one, and can now get up to 0.65.
I went out with a stop-watch to try guage the performance, but only know the UK figures for comparison. Couldn't get a good 0-60 time, but 30-70 was 5.9, and 50-70 in top 10s, which is similar to the early uk car. whilst it feels PDQ to me, it does seem to be down a bit (running on Optimax), and after 5000 it really drops off.
I've read some suggestions, but sadly wouldn't know the actuator from the washer bottle.
I've read about resetting the ECU, but the instructions said to get the boost up to 0.9, which is a bit of a problem.
Any ideas?

cheers guys and gals

Hello again

I know they are not that local to you but you might want to consider going to ScoobyClinic in Chesterfield (Derbyshire) to get it checked over. They are very well respected by users on here. I guess it's only an hour or so down the M1.

Unless anyone else knows a good specialist more local to York?

The only other possibility that springs to mind is that you may have a boost leak somewhere, check all the hoses from the turbo outlet, through the intercooler and into the throttle body, for leaks and check the hose clips are tight. It could also be caused by a leaking dump valve, or the boost control solenoid may not be working correctly or plumbed in correctly. Of course your boost guage could be a fault as well, check the hose to that for leaks.

Best bet is to get to a specialist for a look over
