Default Boost Solenoid Cleaning

I have done a search on cleaning the aboce and have bought a can of brake cleaner and carb cleaner to do the job and printed off instructions on the green conectors etc but Im having a problem on what pipes etc to clean. My car is an sti 2 ra. As far as I can see any of the searches ive done relate to the newer classic shape and the solenoid seems to be positioned different on my car.

Mine has a brown electric connecter thing on top with two small pipes coming out of it.
Below this there is a gold/silve barrel with one larger pipe coming out the bottom and also
a large pipe coming out at at a right angle to the bottom of the barrel if that makes any sense.

Is the solenoid that I have to clean the barrel as described above and further to this is it the two larger pipes
that need to be blown out.

Apologies if I havent explained it too well but dont want to be disconnecting the wrong pipes etc.

Thanks.

Cheers Zippy,

So I will unbolt the goldy barrel and pull out both pipes, spray through the barrel and then spray into the pipes. Is this correct?
Just thinking if I spray throught the pipe, where is all the crap going to go, is it not going the wrong way???
Did you take off the air box when doing it as it seems fairly tight for space down there.
Thanks.

The solenoid is mounted on the drivers side inner wing just before the front suspension strut top. It is the alluminium thing with 2 pipes coming from it (earlier models had 3 pipes i think). What you are supposed to do is take the two bolts off and remove it from its mounts, then pull the 2 pipes off then you need to connect the two green connectors under the dash ( the same ones as if you were doing a ECU reset) and squirt brake cleaner (some people have also used carburettor cleaner) into it. dont worry about filling it up. Also squirt cleaner into the pipes aswell. Then disconnect the green connectors and put it back together. Then take it for a drive to flush it through.
I have tried it once and definitely noticed a difference.
I hope this makes sense.

One things for sure, it makes one hell of a difference if you have never done it to your car

Whats more is I dont recall Subaru doing this as part of any service...

I was shown how to do it by someone once and it really is very easy, and worth doing once every 6 months...car always pulls harder after it
