the green filter is considered maf friendly I got one on my P1 with no problems. induction kits aren't that maf friendly although the K&N 57 is supposed to be okay. the standard air box is good for over 300bhp. I hate the noise of induction kits but thats down to personal choice.

98-00 MAF's were particularly sensitive. An I/K will kill it in no time, but I am surprised that a Green filter has killed it. It may have simply been its time to die and unrelated, but if you're concerned then the best option would be the STi filter. It is a paper unit which must be replaced at each service, but it is reported to free up as much extra power as most of the lifetime alternatives. Green, K&N, JR Racing and STi have little or no history of causing failures. ITG are best avoided.

When I purchased my MY99 it had a Blitz SUS mesh cone filter. The chap I bought off was a mechanic and told me he had just replaced the MAF due to it being faulty. I ran the car for no longer than six months and had to replace the MAF again!!! I reverted back to the standard air box and replaced the OE filter with a Cotton Green one and I have had no further problems 18 months down the line. Do you know if your car had an induction kit fitted before you bought it? The reason I ask is that the MAF could have been on it's way out before you put the cotton green filter in? The general concensus is that a panel filter such as the cotton green/K&N are better at protecting the vulnerable MAF sensors on MY99/MY00 cars. Many run with induction kits and have no problems but £80 a pop for a new sensor made me change back to the OE box and uprated filter. Just my two peneth! hope it helps a bit

Steve.
