Angry Advice Needed

I was wondering if anybody could help me out.
I have just replaced my tyres on my car (17" pirelli p6000) & since then my steering wheel has started to vibrate at around 60+ mph. I went back to the garage & asked them to check & re balance my wheels & they told me that the front drivers side had to have a 65 gram weight on it, but all now balanced & ok.

But this is still happening when I drive on the motoway & speeds above 60+ MPH.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what this problem could be??

Would having the tracking help?

Would you say that the alloy wheel is out of shape??

Your advice is welcome.

Try putting a rear wheel on the front one that may be damaged and see how that goes.

Does the vibration go away if you increase your speed to say 75-80ish?

If it does, its definatly a balancing problem. It may well be the machine being used to balance them is out of callibration so its worth getting them checked at a different tyre centre although this is gonna cost you.

Hi,
Thanks for the post...
I have tried to swap the back with the front - driver side front wheel will not go onto the back? I do not know why but they could not put it on.
Passengers side have been swapped.
It does seem to be a little better @ 80, But defiantly still noticeable

If the problem coincided exactly with the change in tyres, then it clearly has to be either a balancing problem, a faulty tyre or the fitter has broken something. Why on earth won't the front wheel go on the back? Have they broken something they are not telling you about? If they can get it off and on again to rebalance, why can't they put it on the back? Anyway if it vibrates when its on the front, moving to the back will only hide the probelm.

Not sure why the front drivers would not fit??
I think it might be a case of going some where else & paying more money to Diagnose the problem.
It might be the alloy that is buckled ? How could I tell if this is the case?
If I have all my tracking done as well would this help??

My Previous tyres were well worn down on the inside & so I put most the problem down to this – but now the new tyres are on its still vibrating at high speeds I do not know where to start??

Worn ball joints or track rod ends could also cause vibration. If the wheels are buckled it should be immediately obvious to the balancer. They have to be pretty bad to get actual movement of the steeriing wheel. Even with 3 of mine bent it only made the dog guard rattle a bit at 100

Smile balancing

Sounds like balancing to me or a damaged wheel...try another tyre dealer and get them to check them first , dont remove weights until they are check to see how far out .
Tracking shouldnt cause it ...all points to balancing.
P.S im a mechanic..lol

I also think its balancing but I have had all 4 wheels done x2 since it was put on last week.

Could it be the new tyres? one is not sitting right???

Thumbs up yes maybe

Yes it could be the new tyre ...ask the people who you got them off to check them out...if you have another tyre then put that on the rim and see what happens.

I have booked it into another garage to have the balancing re done...(again) & the laser tracking.

Hopefully this should resolve the issue...

Will let you know next week.

Cheers.

If you get no joy here look for someone with a Hunter GSP 9700 balancing machine, (one at Tyres Northampton) this is the the dogs for super fine balancing, able to position weights just in side the spokes as well as on the outer edge of the rim and detect any inperfections in the tyres consruction, far superior to the machines you find in the average fast fit operator. Not cheap at £60 for 4 wheels, but if you have them done like that, it will rule out balancing issues for sure...

Is a wheel centre insert missing ???? This will allow the wheel to mount off centre & therefor give you wheel wobble, They are sometimes metal & mostly plastic , are sized according to the Hub/wheel & fit hub side of the hole where your centre caps go. This could be why the backs are more difficult to fit on the front !!!!! This would not show on the wheel balancing machine as the shaft the wheel attaches to is tapered & will centre it !!! So all would appear fine !!
Defo worth a check

Thanks folks for all your advice of my annoying problem.
Just to let you all know the problem has now been resolved.

Had the tracking & balancing re-done (this time by specialists) & the problem has disappeared.

I have learnt that for your nice expensive alloys do not go to (slow fit) to get them put on…. Pay the extra & get them done properly

Cheers
