New which mapper poll
My earlier thread didn't contain all the right people, so here we go again . I know a lot of it is down to personal opinion and also location, but I think i have made my mind up who am going to, i'm just interested who get the majority vote on here (I think i know the answer)

Either Bob or Andy depending on which ECU. Andy is a wizard on Apexi Power FC which he sells, fits and maps for much the same money or less than some companies supply only. I am sure his skills will transfer into many other ECUs.
Bob was responsible for squeezing 585 bhp out of my 2 litre turbo STi Wagon and we have lost count of the number of mapping sessions we had.
Bob is about to install a Motec in the STi Wagon for the new engine and we are hoping to exceed 600 bhp and 500 ft.lbs when fully developed but retain an every day driver ability. I have been involved with Bob on ten row Link, six row Link, Gems and Tek 3/Ecutek and the transformation on some of the cars has been staggering, several having been worked on by others prior to our involvement.

How many people have tried all of them? Surely people will just select the people they have tried and had success with. The 'best' mapper might not have done the most number of maps for people on this site.
Anyway, Pat did great for me so I will select him! The others, I have only heard about.

I am interested that I even got onto this poll! If you are trying to choose a mapper, then a poll isn't really going to give you the answers you need. If you are in Scotland, or Aberdeenshire then Andy.F should be #1 on your list. Seeing as I don't (currently) do Ecutek maps, then I am unlikely to be your choice. Bob, Pat and Richard Bulmer all do good jobs, but there will be positive and negative stories about all mappers.

They are all good, JUST GET ON AND CHOOSE ONE!! None are going to do a bad job. If your car is only modded a little bit then all will start at roughly the same point and do minor tweaks from there.

Maybe the vote should have been restricted to those people who have "actually" had their car mapped by one of the list !
Paul (Pavlo) is absolutely correct, "every" one of the mapper on the list will have very happy customers, they will also have a few disgruntled ones. This is normally down to "expectations", or because the mapper discovers other issues with the car.
I have no experience of Richard Bulmer, but there is no doubt that Pat, Andy, Bob, and Pavlo have more that shown their abilities to map a car.
Choose your mapper based on location, and the ECU, but just as important, do your best to make sure your car is "ready" to be mapped before you arrive. EG: the mappers are there to map the cars, and unless pre-arranged, don't expect to have to fault find, fit parts, repair, service, and then map the cars.

For an Apexi Power FC, Andy F. has to be your man. His package offer of supplying, fitting and mapping has got to be one of the best replacement ECU deals you will ever come across and he has all the software allowing him to achieve absolutely fantastic results.
Now he is doing Ecutec and prepared to travel across the country (and abroad) no wonder he is hard to get a hold of sometimes.
I also driven a friends car that is a UK car and after he had Tek 3 from Bob Rawle Developments it turned it into a real flyer and pleasure to drive, even in town. Before it had another Tek map on from someone that does not map anymore.

vote for bob here - the guy is very knowledgable and does a lot of impressive scientific development work, plus he made an existing map (from one of the above guys) I had better....

I'm pretty certain that if you asked ANY of the mappers on the list, if they've ever spent some more time mapping another tuners map, they'll say that they made some improvements.
More often than not, since the original map, the owner has decided that they want more power, so are prepared to run a little more boost, run the ignition a little closer, and maybe even run some octane booster.
The second mapper is concentrating on fine tuning, and looking for gains, often spending a similar amount of time doing this, as was spent on doing the whole of the original map........... Hardly surprising that it's better second time around !!!!
The second mapper has it easy, and more often than not, gets all the credit.
I'm sure all the mappers know exactly what I'm talking about

Ecu Specialist
When remapping anothers work on the oem ecu using EcuTek software you CANNOT see what is there and so you have NO IDEA what has been done ... Mark, I'm suprised you appear not to know that. Now if its a Motec, Pectel, Link, Power Fc, Gems et al and the ecu is not password protected then thats a different story as you can access what is already in the ecu.
For the sake of clarity and to show I do know what you are talking about. (if I could remember how to do smilies I would stick a couple in here)

Bob,
I'm not quite certain what your point is onder2:
I don't recall saying anything about EcuTek, or about being able to "see" what is already there, just that it's very easy to take someone elses, or even your own work, spend more time on it, and make improvements
On the basis that "you" have re-mapped other tuners "EcuTek" maps, and made improvements, it would suggest that not being able to see what has been done, is less relevant, than spending more time on it !!!
It's obviously quicker, and easier on an ECU where the map is visable
If a mapper has password protected the ECU, it's a bit flippin irrelevant
Just for clarity, I wanted to use , , and , but thought people might get the wrong idea
Mark. tried to edit the "ponder", but it ain't having it ?

so you are saying that the second mapper will spend twice as long mapping the car as the first
Im sure what Bob is trying to say he has to start again from scratch as he can't see or Edit the original map
so he is not re-mapping other tuners work, he starts from the OE map

Rich,
I don't want this to turn into a political debate, about individual mappers.
I can say with 100% certainty, that each of the mappers, will at some point have worked on another tuners original map, and made improvements.
I'm not suggesting that any of the mappers are better, or worse than another. All of these guys have a lot of experience, all have proved their abilities.
My comments were about time spent, and owners tending to move the goal posts, or not taking into account other mod's.

if an OEM ecu is Tek 3'd by mapper A, and in the future the owner decides to run a few more mods/extra boost/tighter ignition and needs a remap.
Owner goes to mapper B). If mapper A) has password protected the ecu does that limit the second mapper?
I know that its possible to switch back to OE map with the heated window switch and a bit of WOT, but are there limits to the number of maps storable on the ecu.
what happens if mapper A) locks the password.
Mapper B) does the same and the owner wants to go to mapper C)?
Im confused by my own question, however Im interested in the answer.

Isn't the switchable maps via the Heated rear window switch a Bugeye onwards only thing?? I was always led to believe it was??
Anyway,........My vote went with Bob

yep - its Pat the map
The austere "Pat the map" did it for me - in a very short space of time @ Xtreme Scoobies.
I was more than pleased and would recommend their services.
At the time i think he said he had mapped ECUtek 200+ cars.
BUT in all honesty I guess most people would go to their nearest "reputable" mapper
and not the other end of the country 1000 mile round trip thing.

Hi guys.
Sorry to go off the subject a little here, but i think this is going to be the best thread to post this on.
What do you think of ZERO SPORTS ecu for the early classic. good/bad
Would be nice if there is somebody on here that have had some experience of this ecu.
Mappers- do you think you will be able to map this and a approx price for doing so.
thanks in advance
Andy

I don't see any mention of Steve Simpson on here anywhere. Only met him once and he's done no work for APi but you can't ignore the fact that he is one of the foremost mappers in the country.
Gems is his speciality as far as I know, but he may well advise otherwise.
Come on Steve - tell us.
