Default Starting Problems

I have asked this question before but have had a new angle on it since working on the car.

My starting problems have tried to have been fixed by everything including all sensors on my engine. However during my latest installs on the car i decided to clean the idle control valve. On the first start it went first time but has now decided to idle at its own levels after it has warmed up. It will vary from normal 700rpm idle to 1100rpm so my thinking it that the solenoid is on its way out and needs renewing. My car has done roughly 72000 miles so is this the right time to need to change one anyway?

Thanks for you help and merry christmas!

Stuart

It might need a wee tinkle from AndyF to sort the idle level. If the Idle control valve was sticking previously when it was mapped it might be seeing to much air at idle now the valve opening more.

Idle valve should last the life of the car as its just a magnet and a bi-metallic strip. It clogs really bad to carbon build up which can be cleared with brake cleaner.

Told you it was the idle valve ....... eh .......... didnt i
