MPH and REV's relaionship ?????
I have a Subaru Impreza WRX import 1993 model.
Although the clutch is on its way out, (being changed tomorrow) it appears to me that the speed (mph) is low for the rev and gear combination.
IE 70mph = 3,500rpm in 5th
can anything be done for this or am i stuck at these revs, only want to reduce it as petrol costs!!!
I get about 120mile of soft driving on about 38litres of petrol!!! hmmmmmm

Of course the speedo conversion might be incorrect but from testing it with my mates WRX it appears to be right.

you could change the gearbox to a uk spec, which i believe has the tallest ratios of the classic gearboxes.

Jap cars are limited to 112mph normally so, overall top speed is not an issue.
The cars are therefore geared for better acceleration at the expense of top speed which is why your car revs so highly at motorway cruising speed. STis and Type RA and R models are noticeably worse.
As stated above, only option is to swap to Uk gearing which will mean a gearbox and rear diff swap (not too cheap at around £7-800 fitted) plus you'l lose out on acceleration.
Fitting a Lambdalink (AFR meter) or a boost gauge will help reduce your fuel consumption on motorway cruising. It's very easy when cruising to be applying more loud pedal than you actually need. You'll be surprised.
I travel to London a lot from Manchester and I've found the Lambdalink to be a valuable tool in helping with economy on the 250 mile trip.

120 miles on 38 litres indicates a problem. You should be getting about 220 miles at least on 45 litres.
I'd check your lambda sensor and the MAF sensor, poor fuel comsumption usualy means one of these are on the way out.
FYI, 4000 rpm should see about 82-84 mph on your car.

My 94 is about the same, 120miles to a tank, but the cel keeps flashing ocassionally then goes out..... when i tried the CEL checks i got loads of different flashes, should i reset then recheck!!! Is this the same problem on your 93'..... When driving with the CEL on its like someones got a rope tied to the back giving it a pull back when i try to apply boost, CEL goes out and its back to normal..

You should get at least 200miles per tank, 300 if taking it easy. On early classics the lambda sensor is in the headers near the oil filter. Get a bosch sensor for about 35 quid (preferably 4 wire) and you should be fine!
Do a search for lambda sensors to find out which wires do what, to fit it.
