Default road noise on classic scoobys

Do the classic scoobys suffer from high levels of road noise? By the sound of stones bouncing off the underside it would seem that little attempt was made at sound proofing.
My my97 has the constant noise of the road invading the car and can be heard even with the stereo on.
The rubber I have is Eagle F1 - are these especially noisy?

Cheers
Nick

Road noise is common on classics; they're just not refined as the new age. I hear stones bouncing off the underside of my car all the time. It's a Std MY99 on 16 Inch 205/50 Potenzas.

The pay off is that the lack of sound proofing means that you get to hear more of the flat four rumble! :-)

Best.

They will be noiseier than standard.

Wider tyres with a lower profile increases it

The road noise in mine is awful (MY98) with 215/40.17s. Over some surfaces it's great but on others it drones and rumbles. I originally had Toyos which aren't known as a noisy tyre anyway but this time went for F1's after I saw them score highly noise-wise in a tyre test but there's no noticeable difference. I fitted a Noise Killer Acoustikit but that didn't make any difference to the road noise although it quietened everything else down.

Mine (MY00) used to be terrible, however recently purchased a new carpet, that made a vast improvement, other thing I did was to remove the polythene sheeting on the doors and replace with 1000 guage stuff from DIY store..............cabin now very quiet, Door mirrors create a lot of noise too.......still working on that one
