Question Oil in intercooler pipes?

Hello folks,
Is it normal to see oil (or this much oil) in the pipe coming out of the turbo, and around the exit hole of the intercooler?

Pipe to turbo

Pipe to turbo2

Intercooler exit

The interior of the intercooler looks clean.

Thanks.

Normal ...
...If you are using the standard breather system.

You can clean it out with brake cleaner.

Where would the oil catch can go?
Does this mean that the turbo oil seals are not doing their job, or is it acceptable? (MY03 PPP) Would this account for most of the oil usage?
Thanks again.

Are there any real performance benefits to removing the oe cannister and venting to air or fitting a catch can.

Yes , there are performance gains...

The oil vapour returned into the airstream of the standard inlet system effectively lowers the Octane level of the air/fuel mixture.

at idle I believe there is a negative vacuum, which means that you are drawing air IN through the breathers.
this is why I vented to the road, its only a small amount buts its getting it fresh.
from a catch can its drawing in stale air

Yep. The breather mod is the thing to do,vent to atmosphere is the easiest and cheapest way.

or save the £80 and vent straight to the road
...and you'll see increased oil consumption...
