Wheel bearings - how long do they last
I had an inspection carried out on my car today - and both front wheels had a bit of play. So it appears that both wheel bearings are an MOT failure.
However, in May this year a front wheel bearing was replaced - how could it fail after only 4000 miles???

I am very sceptical - rang up the SVA company who insisted that wheel bearings were fitted.
the other MOT type failure was a leaking CV boot - however, the CV joint was also replaced at this time!!
I rang up the garage I now use and he thought maybe they were picking up movement on the steering rack and not the Bearings??
something aint right

something fishy somewhere... wouldn't be so bad if the bearings were £30 each..
If you have to change them:
cheapest place I know of is www.camskill.com as I noticed them on there when buying some other bits.
You might get them cheaper from a bearing factors if you can take one in to get the part number off and measurements.

Had to have front nearside done on my 2001 bugeye - never had this problem before and I think a bit too soon on what to me is a fairly new motor. It developed all of a sudden - increased road noise/thrumming and main dealer confirmed by suspicions. Done under Subaru Proven Warranty.
