Talking Weight of a Type RA vs a standard STi

As above?

Also, is there a different drive ratio, front to rear on the Type RA's?

Thanks in advance!

Reference used: Subaru Impreza Turbo book by Chris Rees (Haynes)

They both get chubbier as they get older!

the 1993-96 RA has 3.9 diffs front and rear with close, short ratios in the box.

The real weight standard is closer to 1200kg

I have a 95 sti RA (and yes, they did make the sti RA in 1995 before anyone bites my head off), max speed I've had her upto is about 115 at around 6000 rpm (on a track)... yet other owners tell me they get upto 140.... does this mean I have the 3.9 or something different ???

Sounds like you still have the speed limiter fitted (112mph)

The limiter cuts the fuel at 180kph. It's been un-restricted, so capable of more than the 180kph threshold as set by the japs.

How has it been unrestricted?

If it has the 120mph speedo face then it hasn't necessarily been unrestricted. If it has a speedo converter and the original 180km/h speedo face (with a MPH label on it) then it should indeed not hit the speed limiter.

It's got the original 180kph face with a MPH sticker over it, including the speedo converter. In the past, (in Kenya), have had impreza's cutting out on me at 180kph. The RA definately does not have the cutt-off. Is there any chance that it may have been fitted with a closer box ?

Just a guess, but Subaru did change the gearing of their cars for different countries.
Maybe the 'African' RA was geared different to the Jap RA due to roads etc, ie UK turbo verses Jap WRX.

I had an RA trans (94) in my Jap STi (my 97) and if it could do 110mph max I would be surprised, so low geared.
5000 rpm @80 mph.

The classics were 30kg lighter (Sti type RA) the new age are 120kg lighter (17 inch) or 150kg lighter (16 inch).
