White smoke

White smoke
Hi,
Bear with me please.
I have a 2001 WRX with 60,000km and its great, but there is a little problem.
First some details, the car is tuned by Ecutek, Standard engine and turbo, exhaust by Scoobysport (2.5").
The problem is that after a tough drive, I'm waiting for a few moments for the turbo to cool down, turn off the ignition and let’s say wait for an hour.
When I start the car again, I leave it on idle for a few moments and then a medium thick white smoke comes out with no oil odor (if I "touch" the smoke, after a few seconds my fingers become sticky).
When I push the throttle a few times, the smoke stops and everything is back to normal.
It doesn't happen all the time, but it worries me, it started about 2 days ago.
I suspect it’s the turbo, but I’ll appreciate any thoughts.
Thank you!
Eli

o.k.....it does sound like your turbo seals .......you can get thick white`ish smoke from oil burning aswell as blue smoke ............blue smoke comes from the oil being burned in the cylinders with the fuel ........but if oil leaks into a very hot exhaust when the engine is turned off it will fill the exhaust system with white smoke (lots of it) and it will stay there until theres pressure to push it out.

well.......the way it sounds is that this happens about a hr after driving hard .....so.....it does`nt sound like it could be water vapour or condensation ..
on the other hand , sometimes if your head gaskit has blown between cylinder & water channel that can produce steam which obviusly could look like white smoke .
but if that was happining you would deffinatly notice the engine temp rising very quickly & you would be loosing water .

Either all the reasons listed above or it's putting unburnt fuel in the exhaust (white and very stinky - very noticeable if you have a full-decat). If it's mis-firing on startup, and you blip the throttle it will clear up the mis-fire and stop. Or it could be the ECU is going into cold start mode, unlikely after an hour, but it's possible.

Is yours fully decated?
I had the same problem with my MY00 that still works perfect!
It is normal and have seen it in many decated cars after spirited driving, you have probably more unburnt fuel that causes steam in your exhaust next time you start the engine!
It is very annoying but in my old car was exactly the same symptom, nothing to worry if this is your case!
