My MY98 WRX has a few more mods than yours but the engine is standard. I run 1.21 bar and have no problems. Has anyone told you about running optimax and possibly an octane booster? A knocklink would also be a good idea if you intend to up the boost.

You can adjust the boost with a Dawes device, very accurate and reliable. Just watch out for detonation and if you go too high with the boost you may get fuel cut which will give you a fright first time it does it! The fuel to the injectors is automatically stopped if it goes above the regulated boost value. Somewhere around 1.15 Bar if I remember correctly. You then need a fuel cut defender if you want to run more boost than that. If you can't get Optimax then you will need plenty of octane booster in the tank.
