Question Idling- slight fluctuations!

Hi all,

I've noticed that over the last couple of days, my MY99 seems to be fluctuating slightly when idling after being warmed up. It's only slight: it sits around the two notches below 1k mark (750rpm?), dips slightly below it, and then returns to normal. It's not like it threatens to stall or anything like that. But its definately not as even as it was a couple of weeks ago.

Have done a search and I know that the MAF is a weak spot on the MY99 and that an uneven idle can be a symptom. I tried the blip the throttle test and the revs fall rapidly till they approach 1k then the tacho indicates a slower return to idle spped, which seems normal.

Could it just be the damp cold weather we've been having as winter takes hold?

The car is unmoidified, except for a H&S backbox (fitted a couple of months ago) BTW

Any comments/advice/suggestions.

Best

you could do an ecu reset and see if it gets worse.

Mine did that until I swapped the MAF out. Maybe I was being paranoid but for the sake of 70 notes ...

The weather has got worse/wetter/colder over the last week or so could just be the electronics adjsting the air/fuel mix (like a choke)

It might well be the MAF on the way out and this could cause you ££££'s if it is as it could take a piston or two with it.

I could explain more but do a search on SN about MAFS to find out more.

The MY99 is prone to MAF failures.

Hi Guys,

Inclined to agree, it's not worth the risk! The engine is barely run in as it is so I don't want an iffy MAF to hurt it. Off to xtreme Scoobies for me then! I'm going to have to open an account with that place!! :-D

Best.
