Injectors ?

Injectors ?
Can someone please explain to me what the injectors actually do?
What injectors do i have standard in MY98?
Currently i am aiming for 300bhp, but eventually with a FMIC i will be looking at 350bhp, would i also need to change the injectors for this?
What are the cost implications?

When you get to a certain power level there is not enough time in which to get the right amount of fuel through the smaller injector, so you need bigger ones.

a set of phase 1 440cc injectors will drop straight in to your rails without any modifications.
phase 2 will not, you will need collars made.
pavlo used to make them up but has stopped now, not sure who is making them if anyone.
you will get phase 1 440cc injectors from v3/4 wrx's and sti's

Sam,
You could also get a set of yellow topped (same colour as 440cc) 480s - they'll drop straight into your phase 1 fuel rails - I had a set from Keigo some time ago, but never fitted them, as I went straight to 550s with a pavlo conversion kit (possibly the last one !) - I have a second set of 550s (don't ask !), but no conversion kit.....
Oh - and I sold the 480s, sorry - think they might be Legacy standard fit ?
Mark

Are the 550's with a Pavlo fitting kit easy to do Mark or anyone? Replacing 380's very soon and getting PFC mapped, so any fitting tips would help!

Vulnax999 - Easy enough (!) It took me about an hour - remove the washer bottle and the N/S is easy to access .. I have an induction kit, so removal of the filter allowed access to the O/S (Though I may have also moved the water header tank (?))
The worst part by far is removing the old injectors - Unbolt the retainer (two bolts on each) and unclip the electrical connection at the cap first. I gave them a squirt of WD40, then used mole grips to get them to twist (loosening the seal). Then PULL (!!!!) - If you can get a pull directly out of the mount, then they'll come - Be careful to remove all the o-rings, mine left one in each fuel rail hole (Except one- which I was convinced had fallen into the cylinder, but it had flown out, onto the suspension mount !)
Assemble the new injectors with the Pavlo kit on the bench, then simply pop them in (they'll literally pop, as the rubber seal drops in). Be aware that they stand proud slightly more than the 380s.
Also, (as it comes back to me), the retainer wouldn't quite fit the new injectors, so I removed the internal rubber seal (inside the retainer) and found it fit rather well, Plus, my kit didn't have any new bolts (set screws) and the originals are too short, with the new injectors standing proud. Fortunately, I had a pack of 4 mm set screws handy, which I cut to size - so you might want to get some if you don't have any.....
Hope this helps,
Mark (Feel free to ask more if it doesn't )

Sam, I was wondering how you are going to go about mapping it to your new injectors as you can't remap a 98 ecu? or have you got a fc commander or something like that?

Yep i have a power Fc with an Apexi Ecu..
Just had a PM from Andy, and he is going to Bristol on the 12th November, which is still 156Miles from me, so just adds too much to the cost, as last time i drove to Oldham.
So I have put a thread in to see if there is someone in London who needs a map, so that his travel charge can be split.
As i can not put the injectors in and drive...needs an immediate map.
Any idea's anyone?

Fit the new bigger injectors and use the Commander to alter the injector offset/correction in the Power FC menu to suit the bigger size. This should allow you to drive it gently / off boost to get it mapped.
That's what Andy suggested for my 550's and new PFC when I go upto Sunny Scotland in November!

Driving to Bristol will add near £60 to my £150 that is being charged for the tweaking of the map....+ an additional 300 miles on my clock...
...as money is also on the low for this month..
Paid £310 for the uppipe (does not included fuel)
Paid £110 for the injectors
£55 for the MOT
Need to still get Road Tax...
£150 was the most i wanted to spend on the map..but looking like i may need to put it on hold for another month..
