I am hoping someone can tell me if the turbo inlet pipe that runs under the inlet manifold on the MY99 turbo,can be removed without taking off the inlet manifold.

Has any body done this?

I think there may be a split in it,and would like to replace it with an upgraded one.

Someone please help.

Hi mate,
looked at this with a mate not that long ago.
we managed it with a recirpocating saw and managed to squeeze a samco one in without removing the manifold.

the OE was too stiff to remove any other way and the nice samco silicone one was soft enough to mainuplate in place.

I was worried when he was blindly using the recip though! looked like Jason from the halloween movies!

No need to remove the PS reservoir though, and as for the samco, they are available from places like rally designs (www.raldes.co.uk?) or demon tweaks but.
they are pricey thats for sure.
occasionally they come up second hand but get snapped up quick-style.
Have you thought about DIY?

get a kit to relocate the PS reservoir (about £50 or so) down to behind the o/s/f headlight.
then the inlet is just a 90deg. reducing samco elbow and a bit of stainless/alloy pipeing with 2*45deg. bends in.
you could tap any connections in or it might spur you to remove a load of the useless ones.

Oh yeh,the blasted pipe.
I was looking at it earlier on and it looks like theres not much space behind the pas pump to get it out,and the turbo side is probably just as bad.

Not sure how Im gonna tackle this,not looking forward to it.

I think I might have to take a trip to blockbuster and rent a something to give me some help.

On my 02WRX - I assume very similar - I managed to get it out with just a little bit of brute firce and ignorance. Disconnect all the ancilliary hoses (Dump valve return was a pain as the "working" part of the clip was underneath the hose). Then manually snap off a couple of the smaller "stems" that the hoses connected to. At that point, with a bit of twisting, pulling, and grazed knuckles, out it came.

There is an article on it at scoobymods.com, IIRC - again will be targetted at the bugeye/blobeye as it's a US site, but generally they have good step by step instructions.

When I replaced mine I took the inlet manifold off and it wasn't nearly as much hassle as I thought it would be TBH. It gives you a chance to clean everything up too.The injector rails and injectors, throttle body etc etc all come off with the manifold so it's not too much of a work up.

I'm looking to replace my standard one for a Prodrive one soonish - but will be relocating the PS header first....

I removed mine (MY98) by gently battering the dump valve return pipe with a large screwdriver and hammer until it came off and I could then fiddle the old pipe out. I also loosened the manifold bolts but that didn't help because the problem was the fuel pipes that are bolted on underneath the manifold. The power steering gubbins can be unbolted (without draining) and temporarily tied up out of the way. The Samco was fiddled in relatively easily (it's squashy) and, if I remember correctly, some of the metal stubs could be removed (push fit) until the pipe was on and then replaced. It really wasn't too bad to do. Hope this helps
