no throttle or power steering

no throttle or power steering
Can anyone give me any clues on this one:
Twice in the last two days, while cruising at a steady 40ish, the throttle has stopped responding - and engine slows to idle. At the same time, all power assistance to the steering disappears - leaving me to wrestle the car to the side of the road :-(
First time this happened, switching ignition off and on again cured everything and got me home fine. Second time the engine wouldn't restart - just turned over. But after a few minutes (sitting and fuming) it started again and all ok!
Going to local dealers (tiley) tomorrow, but any hints would be great.
Cheers,
JB

sounds like a dying fuel pump or crank/cam sensor.
It sounds like the car is stalling and youre loosing power (the lack of pas is just coz the engine is about to stall).
However this could be down to a fkuced maf sensor (airflow meter).
It might be wise to do a CEL check by connecting the green and black plugs together under the stearing column.

Agree with dij, also worth checking battery terminals are not loose.
Worth checking for codes for sure, might no be any but worth a try.
look here for reading error codes

Well didn't get anywhere at the dealers. No CEL codes, apart from something to do with the starting signal, which they said wouldn't be related to this problem. MAF sensor apparently fine.
They did an ECU reset, but didn't really have any ideas. Hasn't gone wrong again yet...
