Default Whats the weakest on a UK spec scoob.

Soon to be running over 300bhp on a MY00, When i tell people that ill be running this to other scooby owners, i always get the same comment about the gearbox, so all i want to know is on the UK spec cars whats the weakest is it the gearbox or the engine. Also i would like to hear any comments from owners of UK spec scoobs which are running over 300bhp on standard internals and gearbox.

It is the gearbox, But your year has a gearbox with a stronger , heavier casting (casing) unlike the pre MY97 which has a lighter casing & therefor flexes more under power allowing the gears to part slightly, The Type if box is on your Vin plate. TY752 is the earlier lighter casting box.

You forgot about the clutch
That suffers with much over 280lbs of torque, the gearbox will die if you put too much torque though it, but torque is what you want for drivability so......

Doh , Oh yes, If the clutch is cr@p that will go 1st, Thinking this could be set as a safety margin, More than 300 ft/lb's & it slips

Is this the same for blob eyes (WRX)? Do they have any stronger gearboxes?

It was 2nd gear that went on mine, it also burnt the clutch and cracked the flywheel.

Not sure, But don't get confused, the internals are still as fragile , it is just the casing, This flexes more on the earlier boxes & alters tolerances , which means the gears don't mesh together fully & then they strip teeth etc.

I dont think there was any change in the gearboxes between the late classics and the latest blobeye'd WRX's, the strongest box out there that subaru do is the one fitted to the STi, but its heavy, considerably heavier than the WRX box.
