Default Rolling road variances?

Is there/was there ever a definitive thread on which rolling roads are more or less "conservative" than others.

Just wondering what my 325bhp/302torque at G-Force in Aylesbury is worth at say, Powerstation v Well Lane v PE v Star

Any comments welcome

I think Gforce and PE are about the same! Well Lane a little bit higher, Powerstation a little bit lower

Not really definitive, probably controversial as well...

Some people have run on some of the RRs within a few days and posted various differences.

I suspect some Americans that claim 400 WHP on some of their dynos would only do 400 BHP flywheel on some of ours, or at least I tell myself that LOL. Some of them are getting c.350 WHP on VF22s for example.

Alot depends on the actual day Richard, climatic conditions, ambient temps, barometric pressure all plays a big part in the calculation. Cradle type dynos will always play games and be inconsistent with there results due to there design, how many times have you driven on the road with each tyre making contact with the road in two place, at the front of the tyre and at the rear ? Extra drag? Tyre Wear? etc.

Watch out for the new Superflow Dyno that is coming soon to the UK, closest thing to a real road the way the cars sits on the single rollers

I got 362 HP in Sep2003 @ G-Force - warm day, enclosed rolling road cell, I then got 362 HP in Nov2003 at Well Lane - cold day, rolling road is open basically. If anything it should have been better at Well Lane due to the cold day????

Isn't it more a case of how repeatable a given RR is?
If you use one in particular, all things being 'equal' then if that RR is giving consistant results then you can see real changes due to mapping/mods etc.

There can be big changes to the car due to environmental change as we know. maybe using the same RR eliminates one variable. Shifting around from one to the other is asking for 'trouble'?

Who are you using Richard?

You must get out more!
And I should read the threads more carefully!
Thought you had tried one RR and then another and had differing results...sorry.
How do you find using g Force?
I expect to get AndyF to map an Apexi FC in the very late winter, but not sure which RR to use (if one at all).

Shelsley was good, rained once, and dried in an instance!

You missed the short wheelbase Audi Quattros..............

I think G-force is regarded as one of the most accurate RR's in the UK, Been to a few and was very impressed with their's and the way they treated you.

I read a while ago that the manager Chris had left, shame really as he was a top man and always took the time to find out what you want and explain things.

Bugger about the Audi's - especially if the Dialynx was running mmmmmmm

I was at G-Force as a customer of Steve Simpsons as opposed to one of "theirs" if that makes sense. Very friendly, allowed us to use their workshop and rolling road at no cost to me directly. Even let me make my own coffee LOL

You should do well with an Apexi setup for hill climbing next season although the GEMS has launch control and switchable anti-lag - you may be reeling the pesky EVO and GTiR's in?
On the advice of Steve, I had an alternate low RON map instead of LC - the stresses involved may have buggered the drivetrain otherwise.

As regards which RR, I have used G-Force, Powerstation and SAS in Aldershot, (the latter 2 only for shoot-out days)

Personally now I will use G-Force more as its only an hour and a bit away - cant really qualify as to why - just my own preference

Catch up soon

G-force are always up.....

PE are always a fooooking mile out

Powerstation aint that bad but use slightly to much load LOL...

All RR are ****e in the UK to be fair, cooling is the issue.

AVA in glasgow have the best cooling of any RR i have ever seen and only do at the wheels, where it matters figures.

dingy, I quite like the setup at Dastek in Fife for cooling.

If you use ATW figures, how do you account for different gearing either on the same car or comparing with other cars?

Fife is not a place to visit LOL Not been to AVA.

I've had three different gearsets, and I can't get them near enough to have reliable comparators between wheel figures, withi power at wheels varying massively with road speed achieved. I'd be worried about differences in tyre condition, pressure, wear and drivetrain changes/gear oil temperature etc. Opinions seem to vary on which figures to use, with good arguments either way. But we are back to the only decent use of rollers being to hold a load site for mapping anyway?
