Default MY04 Rough Running

Belongs to a friend of mine.....

He bought a new MY03 last year. It ran rough for the entire length of ownership- kept dropping boost, flashing CELs etc. Apparently like driving a non-turbo most of the time.

After a few dozen visits to his dealer IM eventually gave him another car.

This one is doing exactly the same.

I've just found out that he's always run both cars on supermarket 95ron apparently he asked his dealer, as the sticker on the filler says to use super, but his dealer told him he would be fine with 95 although a little down on power, but not to swap and change- ie 95 would be ok but use it consistently.

I'm guessing that the ECU is seeing Det and pulling the timing- would this be a reasonable assumption?

What do you guys think?

Don't think that is the problem, we have a 03 WRX and it runs fine on 95 Ron. These cars are mapped to run uk 95 Ron, but putting 98 Ron will advance the ignition timing slightly giving you better performance. You can run an STi on 95 Ron and the same thing will happen. Mate of mine runs his 03 STi on 95 Ron and never had any problems.

Are you sure he isn't putting in diesel

Would be worth doing an ECU reset at the same time to help the learning curve...

can you do a ecu reset on a myo3 /my04 wrx by disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours to let all the power drain from the capacitors ?

It is ****, the car wont like it, and it will drive like poo.
Simple, LOL.
Get it on Optimax and leave it there, it needs it to drive properly
