Default RESONATED CENTER OR STRAIGHT THROUGH ??

I have the option of fitting a magnex resonated center or just the magnex straight through pipe,
The downpipe is open necked Janspeed and rear box is magnex
Anyone know if it makes much differance or which way you would go

Straight through would sound nicer, resonated would be much quieter.

I can't see the noise difference been that massive in which case you must consider the difference in price. It's about double for the resonated innit???

Thumbs up

I had a straight throu on my MY99 and it sounded great not muich of an increase in noise just a bit deeper and louder, also had a Magnex rear box on it.

After havin the center done the turbo seemed to spool up quicker and i noticed a slight improvement in the mid range.

Morpheous,

I have a straight through magnex centre section that i do not need. I used it for 3 months and it's in v good condition. I am driving up to Cheshire on tuesday night and I am quite happy to sell it for 30 quid or so.

Might have missed the boat here, but I made the "resonated or straight-through" decision based on the size of my boot!

The classic Wagon is a lot more boomy than the Saloon (drones at about 3k on the motorway), so I went for the resonated centre to avoid headache/earache from the missus at normal cruising speed.

Hope this helps?

Surely you would just get rid of the missus

2 cars of the same year and with very close spec's sound tested at Goodwood

TSL Downpipe/TSL Center/TSL Grp 'N' Rear : 98dB
H&S Downpipe/H&S resonated Center/TSL Grp 'N' Rear : 96dB

The only real difference being the center pipe, so wil be about 2dB less, but it does also stop alot of the tinnie ring that the stainless can emit when cold.

The 98dB car was right on the limit for the 98dB noise limit for the track. Was over the limit in some cases and given the occasional 'Noise' warning from the Marshalls.

Every 3 decibels is a doubling of sound power and every 10 decibels is an apparent doubling in volume, or something like that.

It's a logarithmic scale!!?

So 2 decibels IS significant (perhaps 20% increase in real terms)

An improvement then

What I was surprised about was the difference a H&S Afterburner Decat Non resonated centre made to mine. I have a H&S Scoobysport DeCat D/Pipe and H&S Scoobysport Back Box. I had the originally fitted with a Prodrive (PPP) DeCat Resonated centre pipe....definately not loud but had quite a deep burble. Then I fitted a H&S Afterburner Decat but Non-Resonated and OMG it sounds completely different. Quite a unique sound with a rasp like I have never heard I have had a number of people ask if I have changed the headers (which I haven't). However the downside is I made 103.6 DB's at Castle Combe last month during a noise test and the tester said he stopped recording at 103.6 cos the metre was still climbing ?? YET it is not that loud inside the car - certainly bearable

A full decat with a TSL Firestorm is something like 116dB (Ouch).
A collegue has just bought a car with such a system and yes it's LOUD......

I quite liked driving it tho' but only cause I could give it back.......
