Post TD05 Upgrade?

Hi,

I will be upgrading my TD04 turbo to a TD05 very soon....Am hoping someone can help me answer the following questions:

How can i be sure that the turbo that i will be purchasing is in good nick?
Is this difficult to fit assuming that it already has the front entry conversion?
Will i notice as much Lag as i do in the TD04?
What will the perfomance differences be?
Do i have to get Metal head Gaskits fiited?

I am running a Fower Fc in my car aslong with other mods.

Thanks
Sam

Check to see if there is play in the shaft .

Last time I changed a turbo it took me 3 hours.

TD05 comes in at about 3000-3200rpm for 1 bar.

As for performance depends who is mapping it .

Last question pass

hi
i have a tdo5 fitted and i am fitting the fc at the moment
no difficulty to fit the td05.you must have the banjos who are bigger on td 05 and grind a lug of the engine that touch the turbo body if it is a phase2 engine
not necessary to change the head gasket.
improvement is great if the power fc is well mapped (that's the reason i bought the FC)

Know who your buying it from...ie from a running car or breakers?

Not too hard if your handy with a spanner. I leave it to more mechanical hands personally. Labour will be around £90.

More. Its a bigger turbo. From memory it hits around 1bar @3100RPM (someone confirm?)

Alot! The TD04 runs out of puff whereas the TD05 just keeps pulling.

Nope.

Also worth having a look at one of me old threads with similar questions :

Sam

Andy Forrest supplied my FE TD05 and has a pretty awesome reputation on the Apexi front

I've gone the EcuTeK route so have no axe to grind

I think what he meant to say is port the turbo not heads. Easy DIY job to port them if you want to do it. I'm leaving mine as it is.
