Default Help needed "URGENTLY"

Help needed urgently!

Whilst driving today, and sitting around 55mph on the motorway, put the foot down to pass some slower vehicles.

When the car hit around 3800rpm the power dropped and a loud whooshing could be heard.

We tried several times to emulate this and it keeps doing the same thing, but not on every occasion.

We have put a boost gauge on and when the it reaches 10psi, it immediately drops back to around 5psi and giving the loud whoosh.

When the car doesn’t do it, around 15/17 psi is showing on the gauge.

We have check intercooler hoses, and looked at the dump (std) valve and waste gate, there are no apparent faults that can be seen.

The car has had a new updated fuel pump and regulator fitted and an exhaust was fitted a couple of weeks ago.

Andy F , is going to be mapping the car this Monday coming so an urgent response would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Chris W

Would check Those connections again. Turbo outlet or wastegate actuator?

Sounds like a pipe is leaking under load or

Does the car have a VTA dump valve, could be the spring isnt holding the boost back

Try some washing up liquid round the pipes at the turbo output, intercooler and take it for a quick drive ,this may help indentify where it is coming from

Its defo between the turbo output and the inlet manifold if its wooshing under load and only howing 5 psi on the boost guage also check the pipework to the MAP sensor and clean out the boost solenoid just in case

Pay particuler attention to the DV as a visual inspection will not present the same clues as to when the car is under max load

55mph then WOT will present max load on the engine

What Steve said, possible wastegate, if it was the DV it would probably be happening more often that you say Chris.

Is there anyway of checking it??, and where would the loud noise come from, it sounds like a VTA dump valve that has been jammed open, very loud and continued whooshh.

It sounds as though the pipe connection from inlet manifild to dump valve is either blocked, loose/leaking. AS pressure builds up in the intercooler and inlet manifold this would act on the piston of the bov to blow it open, if the pressure under the piston is greater than that above it then this will happen, so check that connection and also make sure that the bov piston is sealing in the boz body and not leaking, if you had an APS bov fitted, for example, I could well understand this happening.

Having changed the fuel pump recently, anyone think it could be fueling related?

Have ran the car with a full tank and it still acts in the same manner.
