Question Oil Temp - Too hot or what?

I am getting a constant oil temp of 95 when I am driving at around 70-80 mph, if I then do some spirited driving this goes up to 100. My car is a 03 Sti with Tek 3, full decat, fuel pump etc. Is this normal or do I need an oil cooler?

Cheers

Marc

Depending on the oil I think you should be okay upto about 110 to 115 degrees..

Motul 300V 15W50 is good..

That Greddy adapter looks quite neat, my only concern would be that its cooler at the filter.

Does anyone know the temp difference between the block and the filter?

I imagine it could be up to 10 deg c?

If you run motul you will find it will run about 5 degrees warmer than most oils and it gets hotter much quicker from cold.

Ive had 115+ round track

Good true synthetic will handle 110 degC and 130 degC for prolonged periods. I wouldn't worry too much so long as you have a true synthetic in there.

Default OK!

Mark, the reason you oil seems to be so hot is that the temp sensor is reading the temp from above #3 cylinder (hottest one of the lot as it is nearest the turbo) but the average temp of the oil is about 7-9 degrees lower than that.

so long as your oil pressure is above 4.5 bar with the Motul in the car, you'll have no issues M8!
