I use Gunk on all my cars, I actually used it on the Impreza 2 days ago as developed a minor oil leak underneath.

Why disconnect the battery?

Just spray it with the engine slightly warm and leave for 5-10 minutes and spray it off. You can scrub some areas if you think it's thick hard muck!
Gunk is good stuff and I find it actually penetrates really well and clean ace, and only requires a good spray to wash off. Also doesn't need a lot of water pressure as it washes off easily!

Peeps get carried away and worry about covering this and that in the engine bay and not spraying certain areas or parts.

But electrics have moved on since the dark ages and everything under the bonnet is designed to withstand water/moisture and the likes!

Just after washing, start engine and leave to run for 5-10 mins with bonnet shut and take for a quick drive and let idle for another few minutes with bonnet open and there you go...........

Some may dissagree..
But I only have 20+ yrs of doing this........
