try www.imprezasport.net for lots of sport info.
from a personal point of view i have owned a 98 sport for about 4 months and i have found its perfomance is about the same as my old mk2 golf gti,if your expecting monster performance you will be disappointed, but if you want a fairly quick, cheapish to run, reliable, fun to drive car then you will love it.i think they are good motors, and it stiil turns heads even without the turbo bonnet.
things to look out for are
service history, oil leaks, piston slap when cold, clutch judder and the usual stuff like tyres etc.
hpi check is a good idea
try to get as late a model as possible preferably 98 or later as you get better interiors and trim.99 onwards get more powerful engines.
hope this helps im still a beginner with scoobs but the people on the above website are a relly good bunch and will happily answer any questions.
cheers

ps after 4 months i still look out of my window and grin when look at my car
