Default Need proven Subaru garage that can fix Knock

Does anyone know where I can get my car fixed in Cumbria? The car is a MY93 WRX and I think I have a problem with Knock, I can reset the ECU and I get full boost, a few miles later I’m in limp mode with only half boost. I've tried loads of Garages in Carlisle but none of them have managed to fix the problem so I’m looking for one that can. If no one can recommend a proven Garage in Cumbria with Subaru knowledge and with the equipment to sort out knock where could I go? Scooby Clinic is about 2 – 3 hours away, are they any good?

You mean det?
What fuel do you run your car on?

I think I mean det. I run the car on Optimax + booster.

don't get any error codes so I guess the ECU is limiting boost because of det/Knock.

Stan Palmers don't have the equipment to connect to imported old WRX's. they know about new cars.

Where else in Cumbria or should i just go to Scooby Clinic and has anyone else had there MY93 in to them.

This is now down to how far you want to travel and who can fit you in me thinks....
Personally i use ProSport in Stockport (manchester) 0161 432 9999 but that could be a bit far for you to travel

I know Prosport have experience of early cars...
Scoobyclinic do remaps of the older ecu`s.
Give them both a bell.
These are a couple of the best Subaru garages anywhere, and definatley worth the travel.

I'm surprised it's detting on Optimax + booster. Is there an after-market chip on the ECU board? Open it up and post a pic up. I didn't think detting would trigger a limp-home mode. There's probably something else up with it. Do you know what the error codes are?

That's the thing i don't get any error codes. i reset the ecu and get full boost (10 ish PSI), a few miles of driving it stops going above 6psi.

what else could be causing it?

would the MAF sensor not log errors in the ecu if it had failed? If i pull the MAFSensor connector off while its running it dies straight away. Does that not prove the MAF's ok? Is there a way to clean to MAF just to see if i get further before i loose boost. Thank you in advance for everyones help

I would have thought that the O2 sensor could be the biggest culprit but you would need a garage with the said equipment to confirm what problems you have

Failed O2 sensor won't cause det unless it has been running very rich and has built up carbon deposits in the combustion chambers which can then be a hot spot.

MAF sensor - tests unplugging it are not definitive. You can clean it with brake cleaner, but this may of course make it fail completely.

I suggest the MAF since it is the most fragile sensor and also the main one that determines load. If load is incorrect, detonation is very likely to result as it usually under-reads. Your model year is not as bad as some, but it is still high up on the list.
