Default ECU and turbo define the early models???

Mechanically speaking, Are the main differences between the early classics, ie. JDM 1992-1994 saloon JDM 1994-1996 saloon, JDM wagon 1992-1996, and the 1994-1996 UK cars a result of the turbo used (TD05 in most cases) and the ECU.

In other words, if I put the right turbo and the right ECU together from any of these models, will I get the standard output and fuelling of that model, or are there other major differences (perhaps compression ratio)??

Cheers for any answers.
