Default Starting problems please help!

Can anyone help? I have a 95 WRX , from cold it starts no problem but if it is still warm it takes a while. The engine turns over a few times before it starts.

I know this is an old post but please can you tell me how you corrected this problem as I am now experiencing exactly the same problem - a lot harder to start when warm!

thanks

found one from when I changed my cambelt.. you don;t need to remove the cam covers though.. it is the orange / brown sensor below the alternator.

You might find cleaning it will solve the problem momentarily.. they are a magnetic (I believe) proximity sensor and dirt SHOULD make no difference but they get weaker as they get older etc.. cleaning with brake cleaner, white spirit etc can allow them to function correctly for a while or just replace.. believe all years run the same sensor..

Yes possible.. seen more problems whilst running with mis fires with cam position sensor but worth a clean whilst you are at it.. cam sensor is below the oil filler and looks the same as the crank sensor

I appreciate your help guys. Admittedly the crank sensor was very caked up with dirt, but cleaning it didnt make any difference. Cleaned the cam sensor as well.

Excuse my ignorance on this one, but surely if it was one of these sensors you would have starting probs everytime and not just when it is hot??

not too sure mate, but electrical resistances change with temperature, so it could be a contributing factor

Default Starting problems please help

I had same problem. Turned out to be crank sensor. I cleaned old one and it worked for a while then started playing up again. New sensor and car starts ok.

Note the car always started first time from cold. but after engine got warm it was a pig. I had to wait for 10-15 min to get mine going again.

So it really sounds like your sensor to me.
