Default DAWES DILEMMA!!

HAVING PROBLEMS SETTING UP MY DAWES DEVICE ON MY MY97 IMPREZA TURBO. I FITTED IT IN BETWEEN THE T PIECE AND THE WASTEGATE ACTUATOR, IS THIS CORRECT? SHOULD I REMOVE THE T PIECE? WHAT IS THE PIPE ON THE T FOR? IT GOES TO A SENSOR?
ANYWAY, WHEN FITTED AND SCREWED ALMOST ALL THE WAY OUT MY CARS RUNNING OVER 16 PSI AND HITTIND FUEL CUT MOST OF THE TIME. IS THIS BECAUSE THE SENSORS STILL IN LINE?. I WAS TOLD TO BLANK OFF THE SENSOR BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT ITS FOR AND I DONT WANT TO DISABLE FUEL CUT.
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED,
THANKS,
MIKE.

Firstly switch your caps lock off!!

You need to fit the device in between the actuator and the turbo, you will have to remove the t piece then block off the pipe as that is a bleed off to the std boost controller, be warned though, this way will disable fuel cut so be carefull setting up your boost level.

andy

hope this helps

Did mine as above, and believe me, it did NOT disable fuel cut, I head butted the screen several times whilst setting it up!!

been there a few times already, had a few close ups of the dead flies on the windscreen!
I have been told that in some Imprezas, if you leave it in second at a certain rev range for so many seconds the boost is cut to protect the gearbox (mentioned on www.sidc.com) well, this happens on mine. so, do you think thats what the pipe is for??

Sorry forgot to mention, you will need to block off both pipes going to the stock boost controller to disable fuel cut.

Do you have any other monitoring devices ?

I'm not sure that disabling fuel cut - when you're already hitting it is wise unless you've checked AF mixture and Knock.....

16psi is 1.1 bar - your cut is higher than that (1.25 I think), so you may be peaking slightly higher than you think ... Surely the ECU cutting fuel is telling you something...

Apologies if you've already checked out knock and fuel mix, but would not like to see you blow it

The car is running about 12psi (0.9 bar) standard and i was going to run about 14psi, even with the dawes all the way out i was getting 16+.
I dont want to disable fuel cut as i dont intend running that much boost.
Just want to know what the pipe goes to from the t-piece on the wastegate feed pipe.

OK - Just didn't want you to get 'burned'.....

I ran 1.1 boost on my 98 with Dawes, last year, without any probs. Just take off the T piece - The pipe that runs to the Boost Soleniod should be blocked (at the end you just undid) - Use a bolt and maybe a cable tie..

The other ends just connect to the dawes iirc....

Good Luck - Mark

PS _ I STILL ran AFR and KL, to be sure.... (And still do)

didnt know you could disable the fuel cut??? Isnt it part of the ecu programme?
My jdm 1996 wagon has dawes with 3 port solenoid. I have blocked all holes but still have fuel cut??? are the 2 port type solenoids working with a different type of fuel cut???

You need to blank the pipe off to the solenoid.
The Dawes is what controls the boost level to whatever level you set it at-the reason you are having boost probs at the moment it because the dawes cant see the actual pressure because pressure is being bled before the DD through the stock boost controller.
Connect it up as described earlier and it should be fine.

easy

I take it you have loads of other mods to run 20psi, mine is standard bar induction kit, magnex backbox & DIY IC water spray

Neither of the pipes mentioned have any bearing on Fuel Cut, which is a function of the MAP sensor.

On a 98 UK car, disconnecting the std boost controller from both ends *will* make fuel cut disabled. The ecu cannot tell how much boost you are getting thus nothing happens. I know this as i have it done

Wont this stop the ecu from giving the correct fueling for whatever boost levels though?

Im no expert but mine was done by a *well* known tuner and when rolling road tested on full blast the fuelling was spot on for the boost levels that were tested, no problems so far running 1.3 bar on fun mode
