Arrow A Quick remap question ...

I have a MY03 WRX with PPP.
I have done a few mods now and I am considering a remap.

Am I correct in saying that the PPP ecu is basically the same as a Tek 2 ???

If so, can my existing ecu be remapped to tek 3??

Probably a silly question, but I'm a bit confused by the whole thing

Thanks!

TEK 2 - Simular to PPP in it is a generic map. Apart from that ones by Prodrive the other is by ECUTEK

Tek3 is a totally custom remap and can be done on a PPP car or not. Seems a waste on a PPP car.

No . I would imagine the licence agreements are different between Prodrive/Ecutek and Ecutek/Ecutek agents.

You are getting confused as the Ecutek *software* is used to create & apply the Prodrive PPP map.

The concept of Tek(n) is confusing as it doesn't actually exist. You can get an off the shelf generic map ( often referred to here as a tek2 ) or a custom map ( referred to here as a tek3 )

Hi

Sorry to jump in but I am confused. Is the "tek2" just a copy of the PPP maps and if so where can you get it? Assuming this is cheaper yhis would be a much simpler way of "tweaking" my car than going the full hog ( which I can't afford!).

From what I understand tek 3 means a custom map developed speficially for your car and therefore is the best option if you can afford it.

Cheers

This Tek2 etc nomenclature is all very confusing, the PPP map is just that, no one else has access to it, its Prodrives own and it IS created with the same software that I use ie EcuTek.

Other companies offer a mild upgrade which is supposed to be "one size suits all", in general thats the case however some cars are VERY different and then it doen't work out.

I only do a custom map as I know how different the cars can be like for like, the so called Tek 2 should still be carefully checked and verified as suitable for the car its applied to.

Any PPP ecu can be remapped, however its best mentioned that as that has "value" its a good idea to try and obtain a second ecu with std mapping for the upgrade and then recoup cost on the sale of the PPP, we can re syncronise the keys at remapping.

Bob,

Thanks for clearing that up, consider tek2 forever stricken from my vocabulary;-)

My car has a TEK 3 remap - sometimes I think the engine hesitates (I wouldn't say splutters..) but not turbo lag as you can hear that spooling up and I wonder if that is normal for an ECU tek 3 remap or if I have a problem?

other times it is aboslutely fine like when you smoothly introduce the throttle but energetic use of the throttle (i.e. club foot!) causes this slight hesitation at lower revs say 2-3 thousand.

Do I have a problem? Also, it certainly is fast but doesn't feel much faster than my old classic - is that just the nature of the more linear turbo delivery? my old classic was uk and untouched so I was expecting a significantly faster car with MY03 with TEK 3.

it is a MY03 and run on optimax and is decatted.

I had the same symptoms Wrexy, but BEFORE the ecutek re-map..

the cause was det and the re-map solved it.
Something to do with my engine being prone to DET and the standard map (along with my DIY downpipe change) was causing lean mixture at 2.500-3000rpm.
Get the map checked to make sure it's not over-advancing and causing this feeling.

PS editted to say

Now the car is mapped correctly it flys (1.3bar held right up to 5,500)..

Wrexy - I'd talk to the person that mapped it. They should be able to sort it!

Also... you may find that simply 'squeezing' the throttle - rather than slamming it down - will give better performance, whatever. It's a function of what's going on in thte inlet manifold I think... if Bob comes back, he can explain

Thanks, I shall talk to the original mapper who is a well respected bloke from well known scooby tuner so I am sure it won't be a problem. It might just be down to different driving styles as you say so maybe it needs to be remapped to my right foot!

ps I assume I'm not causing any damage if I have the same DET problem as scooby L?

I'd drive it carefully until it's looked at mate.

If it is what I had then any DET is bad news.

I could get around mine by gentle throttle pressure, and avoided loading up the car with people.

A microphone that attaches to the engine block and is tuned to pick up the frequency of det . It projects it on a visual display
