The sensitivity should be turned to max.
I found tapping the block gives quite a dull noise that the knock sensor doesn't pick up so well, try tapping a bolt screwed into the block instead and see what happens.

Yup as zhastaph states, up to max, you should get the bottom green flash when you turn the car on (then goes very dull), even yesterday when driving my scoob hard (JDM STi) i only got the bottom green flashing and i wasnt going slow either
Tony
PS are you using octane booster with optimax?

First guy to moan cos he's got no knock link activity
I only ever see the odd green on mine when I mega rag it. I know mine works cos it lights up like a xmas tree from the noise of the starter engaging (self test mode ), plus I've had det in the past

Not really, I may have had a green when bounding over a gurt bump, but nothing really. It only really listens for a noise of a certain frequency, a metal on metal whack normally does the trick.

Fully clockwise. I don't know about piston slap, but I would have thought that that would've shown up on the greens.
Where under the IC did you mount it? Directly on the block?

when you start the engine up first time the knock sensor should light up at least two greens i have a my99 and apexi induction kit and centre decat and backbox and when i go upto 6000 rpm i get 1 green, but you should have atleast 1 green glowing dimly anyway when on idle

Right, this is not very common but worth checking. My knocklink came with the red and black wires in the loom supplied the wrong way round. It was wired black to red and red to black.
Note that because of the checking procedure at the factory the units wiring is correct, just the wires in the loom that were wrong.
Heres is a pic with the loom highlighted.

I havent noticed it flashing when starting, but will have a look later and see, i shall also check the sensitivity is on max, so thats all the way to the right if im looking at the unit with the leds facing me?

its always worth while to check for dry joints on the led legs.
Mine had two dry joints from new.
Take the board out of the black box and wiggle each led. Look for movement of the legs on the underside of the board.
