Smile Gruppe-S Headers

Hi guys,
thinking of fitting the Gruppe-s V2 headers on my car(P1),
its has the following mods
MD 304 hybrid turbo
APS FMC/cold air kit
MRT inlet pipe/scoobysport downpipe/magnex centre/blitz nur-spec rear
tek-3
uprated fuel pump/regulator
at the mom the power is 330-350bhp/290lbs

firstly would the gruppe-s bolt straight on without replacing anything (ie up pipe/downpipe etc) ?

was thinking of fitting bigger injectors, will 550s be enough ? (not sure what size are on the P1 ! ).

I am aimimg for more torque low down the rev range ( happy with top end )
any advice will be most welcome

Hi, I have similar spec ,mods to you on P1 (No FMIC tho and diff Turbo + have 550's) but have the Gruppe-S headers/up-pipe fitted!

When they were fitted I had a RR after a re-map to suit, and found that I had Lost a little torque in the mid range, but gained at the top of the rev range! Now they are fitted I wouldn't remove, but can't say that I was bowled over by the cost-v-effect that they had on my car! Engine note changed too, but didn't loose the flat four sound completely, just wails a bit more on high revs (like a bike)

I have found that the Gruppe-S header make the car a bit more fluffy off boost but that can be mapped around as you can run more ignition, during spoolup a little torque is lost but once on boost there are gains all the way to the redline, on my car I would say the gains start at around 3800 with the headers really coming in around 4300-4400 where the exhaust note changes and you can really feel the extra urgency.

This is on a UK car tho' so your cams and heads may give more of the effect that Pickle describes.

If you want more power I dont think I'd go that route necessarily

If you port the headers they will be efficient enough for your level of power (+50bhp) - you could do with getting a friend to do it for you - that way its a lot cheaper!! - changing the headers can be such a pain..... I wasted about £1k with Gruppe S crap - the Up-pipe was too short but I believe that this has been substantially resolved on V2... but after mine and other peoples experiences I would advise anyone to steer clear........

You need to look at 550's as a minimum - at 360bhp I was running on 740's!!

I would change the Turbo - its not the best - a TD05/06 would be far better and give you far more gains/per £ than changing the headers - at 1.4bar of boost you could have about 380-390bhp on standard internals (its about the limit of the Turbo on Optimax or maybe more with the right fuel type

IMVHO............

Thanks Fangoria......... I do not want more power as such , but more torque lower down the rev range if it is possible ,
any ideas which route is best ?

Difficult on a 2 litre? - for low down torque (sure you can have more torque but its higher up the rev range the bigger the Turbo)

Only way is really to run more boost which is like increasing the cubes.... but on standard internals its a no-no.........

Running restrictrors ala the rally car set up increases torque but restricts peak power!!

You will get a gain from after market headers but I dont think its worth it over and above ported headers - if you were after at least 400bhp then of course aftermarket is the way to go......

Thanks again Fangoria

I suppose the 2.5 route is the way to go then !
