Question What is the best Octane Booster and where to get it from?

I currently use Millers Octane Booster but I have read about NF Octane Booster here and people seem to mention it is quite good. What do people recommend. Will I get improved performance using NF over Millers. I once bought a tin of Octance booster from RE Performance in Bury where you use a certain amount of it...that was really messy. Millers is just a bottle and you pour the whole lot into a full tank.

How much does NF cost and is it worth getting? Where do I get it from...I am based in the Northwest.

Thanks

If you add 1ml per litre (60litre Tank) the bottle will last for 5 tankfuls with afaik an increase in 1 octane point

I used Pentland components for my NF 'Race'. Ask to speak to Rich and buy in bulk. Works out much cheaper.

http://www.pentlandcomponents.com

There is 300ml in a bottle and I use 150 ml every time I fill the tank with Optimax.

Equates to about 101ron. Keeps my JDM STi running very sweetly and not even a hint of activity on the Knocklink.

Nathan..

Once again:

Quote from BP (British Petroleum) FAQ page :

2. How can I boost my octane?

The octane of a fuel can be boosted by adding proportions of a higher octane fuel. Also available is toluene, which can be used as an octane booster in both unleaded and leaded fuels. Generally each 5% addition of toluene will increase the fuel's octane rating by one number. It is not recommended to add more than 30% of toluene to the fuel. Because of the dangers with incorrect mixing, individual motorist are advised against mixing additives with fuels without first consulting their car engine manual or their fuel supplier.

URL: http://www.bp.com.au/products/fuelnews/faq.asp#2

Toluene:

Toluene is a pure hydrocarbon (C7H8). i.e. it contains only hydrogen and carbon atoms. It belongs to a particular category of hydrocarbons called aromatic hydrocarbons. Complete combustion of toluene yields CO2 and H2O. This fact ensures that the entire emission control system such as the catalyst and oxygen sensor of your car is unaffected. There are no metallic compounds (lead, magnesium etc), no nitro compounds and no oxygen atoms in toluene. It is made up of exactly the same ingredients as ordinary gasoline. In fact it is one of the main ingredients of gasoline.

MRT Rally's Training WRX will warn WRX owners to avoid using other products than Toluene, because they usually will **ck up the O2 sensors

Octane ratings can be calculated accurately by simple averaging. For example, the tank of an some sedan is 80L.

Filling it with 70L of 98 octane and 10L of toluene (@124 octane) gives you 12.5% toluene by volume.

This will yield a RON of:

[(70 x 98) + (10 x 124)] / 80 = 101.25 RON

or go to 20L of toluene, for a 25% ratio, and you get a total RON of 104.5. Enough for most street orientated cars to get out of detonation territory.

Toluene is listed at the top of the list on octane ratings with a RON of 124, followed by methanol at 115 RON and BP100 racing fuel at 110 RON.
